Thursday, August 28, 2003 Well, new job is pretty cool. I figured out that my next pay check should be more than twice as much as what it was at the other place, though I'm kinda getting stressed at this job. The manager of the store is a total neat freak and Susan, the district manager, said today when I was doing her nails, "Yeah Kathy said that you left a mess over here, cookie crumbs, nails..." Oh God, great. I was like, "Oh, ha ha". No one told me I had to keep everything spic and span. I felt so dumb. And then as I was doing her nails she kept saying, "I never saw anyone do nails like you" like I was doing it wrong and the OTHER nail tech does them THIS way. "I'm not sure how long these will stay on since they're so thin." "Shouldn't I go back and wash my hands with that brush? That's why I got it for you." Good greif. I hate that. I must admit, it looks a lot better. After I post this, I'm probably going to go up and jump in the shower. I feel so dirty. Blah. Just one of those days. Speaking of my day...I'm pretty sure I got paid today for the stuff that Laura did...or something like that. She said something about her doing all the work for me. *shrugs* If so, it made it worth my time. I learned nothing today except that everyone there thinks I don't know squat about nails. I asked to be shown the gel system. "That's really complicated, I don't think I want to go over it with you until you've.....................until you.........since you haven't......." JUST SAY IT! SINCE YOU SUCK AT NAILS, MARY. ".....because you haven't mastered acrylics yet, I'll wait to show it to you." I could SEE the look in her eye.......she so wanted to say "Because you suck at doing acrylic, I REALLY don't want to show you the gel, just something else you'll screw up." Constantly over my shoulder watching and telling me all sorts of crap. "Actually, Mary, if you do it THIS way..." "You know, Mary, lemme show you another way to do that..." "ACTUALLY...." ACK! I was also told today that even if pushing back the cuticles on the client hurts them, do it anyway. Oh yeah, and keep using the uncomfortable chair (even though I got complaints about how un-relaxing the pedicure was) for pedicures and the clients don't know what they're talking about. *rolls eyes* I swear, this girl can make a 20 minute manicure last an hour. We were specifically taught in school to keep our eyes on the client's hands, not to look up. She constantly was looking up and talking, mostly about her dogs. *ahem* When you do that, you can still talk to them, but you're saving time....time where you could potentially have another client scheduled in. She claims she can do a full set of acrylic nails in 45 minutes. I don't see how. She actually schedules them in the book for an hour and a half. And that's how long it takes her. She took an hour today to do a fill in. That should really only take half an hour. Also, at school they told us not to push back the cuticles on the toes. Why? Because of people with diabetes (sp?) and it just plain hurts. Who cares if there's cuticle on the toenails?? Obviously Laura and Jess. Jess told me today, "Even if they don't need their cuticles pushed back, push them back anyway. Even if they don't have calluses or anything, file them anyway." Durrrr, how dumb does that sound? Ugh, I'm taking my resumes around to different salons tomorrow. Oh yeah, I got my pay check today. $137.66 for the past two weeks. It was actually more than I expected...but not quite enough. Third week of work and it sucks. Travis and my family have made me realize that I am getting ripped off by not getting paid anything for being there. That's right, I only get commission. So if I don't have clients, I don't get money. I've updated my resume already and tonight I'm going to make a list of salons to go to. Travis is going to drive me around tomorrow and I'm going to drop off my resume to all the salons I missed before. I think I'm getting my paycheck tomorrow. I'm going to cry. Also since I "screwed up" this one girl's nails and she complained, they've been watching over me like I'm a child. Tomorrow I have to go in and work with Laura, the other nail tech, and she's going to "go over things" with me. Ugh. I had a walk-in pedicure today and a scheduled manicure. The people today tipped me, lol. Other than that, it was a slow day, so I fixed my nails up and painted them. I don't really like how the paint on them came out so I might redo them tomorrow. I'm not sure where I am in the Site Fights this week. Um...I guess I'll find out when I publish this post and glance over my site. I have a feeling it's time for a new layout, but this one is just so cute...I wouldn't know what to use to make a new one...and I might make it similar to this one. This is nice. Ahem, anyway, Travis was complaining about the lack of updates, so here I am updating. I started my job as a nail tech at a salon in Altoona called All About You. (If you are from Altoona, email me and I'll give you my schedule, ha ha) Oh, and I cut my long nails off, so I am able to type now...the long nails were a part of the reason for me not updating...too hard to type. I like my job...now anyway. I actually had more clients this week than I thought I would. Two of them didn't tip, though. That kinda made me mad. If you people don't know that you're supposed to tip people that cut your hair or do your nails...YOU ARE. I didn't know that until Katie got her nails done and I went along. Everyone has to find out sometime, i guess. I'm really just typing a bunch of crap right now cuz I'm in the mood to type. It's a good typing day...sort of, lol. I keep making typos and Travis keeps making fun of me. =| OH YEAH, I colored my hair! Well, not ME but I had a girl at the salon do it. It's violet-red. I also got my hair trimmed up. I'm debating whether or not to put highlights in it. I get all my hair stuff for free there, how cool is that? I also get to tan for free, but I don't think I'm going to. I'd burn like crazy...and then get skin cancer and die. A salon that I was at before called today and they still want to hire me. I think I'm going to go work for them, since the one where I had an interview at yesterday won't get back to me until the 11th and the other place wants me to work mostly as a receptionist. I'm thinking about working two places anyway. It would be cool if I could do my nail job and then work somewhere in the mall...like Pacific Sunwear. <3 I love that store.
